Snälltåget – private cross-border, connected through data standard and collaborations

17 Mar 2026
Platform 4

As a small, independent long-distance rail operator, Snälltåget operates in an ecosystem dominated by large, incumbent railway companies. This session shares practical experiences on how a smaller player can stay competitive, visible, and interoperable through smart use of standards, partnerships, and high-quality data.

The presentation focuses on Snälltåget’s operational and technical journey in delivering timetable and product data to national distribution and coordination platforms such as Samtrafiken in Sweden and Entur in Norway, Rejseplanen in Denmark and to MERITS for rest of Europe. We will highlight lessons learned from integrating with different national data models, governance frameworks, and expectations—while maintaining agility and limited internal resources.

Attendees will gain insight into what it takes for smaller operators to integrate seamlessly into national and cross-border passenger information ecosystems, and how open standards and collaboration can level the playing field in a market shaped by much larger actors.
