Last year at TTG, we previewed Translink’s plan to upgrade its legacy closed loop cards to a modern and secure set of EMV-based system. With the transition underway, we have begun to see riders using those new physical and digital EMV cards to travel throughout the Netherlands.
In this keynote, Translink will share real experiences arising from the rollout: What are the key lessons learned from the early stages of this evolution? How is Translink swapping out the legacy cards for new cards? What has been done to instrument both stored value (prepaid) and invoicing (post-paid) payment services. What technical changes were necessary to allow riders to use both legacy and new cards without interruption? We’ll also walk through the current and forecasted agency benefits, how EMV supports operational efficiency, modernizes issuance and distribution strategies, and strengthens long-term system performance through partnerships. This will be a thorough and practical overview showcasing how EMV modernization is elevating both rider experience and agency outcomes.
