The EU’s Single Digital Booking and Ticketing Regulation seeks to resolve long-standing issues in rail ticketing, enabling seamless travel and consumer choice. Intermediaries play a key role in facilitating rail travel but are confronted with legal and commercial barriers which limit the visibility of sustainable travel options and the degree of competition between railways. The presentation will examine how the EU can address this systemic issue by rectifying market failures and developing a regulatory framework with travelers’ interests at its core.
