The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), which serves the greater Boston area and beyond, is working on a program to migrate their well-established card-based fare collection technology ‘Charlie Card’ to a modern account-based system for the 2020s. This fireside will discuss the program journey from conception through to plans for pilot and deployment across a multi-modal agency. We’ll also discuss some future thinking capabilities which position MBTA as leaders in agency thinking around equity and customer privacy.
