Simon Laker
Simon Laker leads the global Smart Mobility practice at Consult Hyperion, consulting by Fime. He is recognized internationally as a leading authority on the implementation of open payments systems in public transport, notably having worked with Transport for London and the major payment brands to define the operational and transaction models that enable direct use of payment cards at the faregate. These models have since been adopted by the payment schemes and deployed in cities worldwide.
Simon has significant experience in North America, where he led the region’s team advising major transit authorities including the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in Boston, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) in Philadelphia, and most recently Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), helping them refine requirements and design for next generation fare collection systems.
In his expanded global role, Simon leads a team of specialists supporting smart mobility and fare payment projects across the globe, helping agencies transition to open and account based ticketing systems and modernized mobility payment ecosystems.
