Alex Hornby has spent his career leading customer-centric transport organisations within four different ownership models and, now, across two sectors since joining the railway in 2024 as Commercial & Customer Director at Northern after 20 years in the deregulated bus sector. A strong believer in the role of People and Place, he oversaw considerable customer & revenue growth, gaining a reputation for strong partnership work, high colleague retention and increased customer satisfaction, ultimately leading his operations to over a dozen national awards. He is proud to be part of a team leading the transformation and growth of Northern, now the fastest growing regional train operator in the UK, running 2,500 services each day, serving over 10 regional Mayoral authorities and now widely recognised for innovation and service development. Alex is an elected Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and, following his work leading the introduction the first electric town bus network in England, was recognised as an Ambassador for his home town of Harrogate in 2020.
