Victoria Garcia
Brighton & Hove Buses was the first bus operator in the UK to appoint and resource an Accessibility and Communities Manager, a role undertaken by Victoria Garcia. Her role is to ensure accessibility is seamlessly integrated into every aspect of the business.
Brighton & Hove Buses has achieved significant milestones. The company has been accredited by the Department for Transport (DfT) as an Inclusive Transport Leader and was the first business in Brighton & Hove to receive Dementia-Friendly Business accreditation.
Victoria’s work focuses on making accessible travel a cornerstone of connecting people to work, education, healthcare, and social interactions, playing a vital role in combating isolation and loneliness. Initiatives ensure equal access and promote independent travel for all.
Her work has highlighted how being accessible is absolutely essential for all passengers which also makes it a commercially viable option for business.
By listening and learning to the lived experiences of disabled passengers and collaborating with disability organisations, Victoria has driven the co-design and co-production of impactful projects. These include the award-winning Helping Hand card and improvements to bus interior design.
In 2019, Victoria was seconded to the DfT part-time to contribute to the Inclusive Transport Strategy, specifically focusing on Assistance Cards.
That same year, she was honoured with an MBE for "services to disabled transport users."
In 2021 she won the UK Bus Award ‘Impact on the bus industry by an individual’ and most recently, Victoria was also awarded with the RouteOne ‘Special Award’, recognising exceptional contributions to the bus and coach industry.
