Timothy Woodward
Tim is Head of Fares, Ticketing and Retail Strategy at the Department of Transport (DfT) in the UK. A public transport professional with considerable experience in the UK and internationally, across bus and rail, and in a variety of commercial, operational, and policy roles. Tim is currently working on rail fares, ticketing and retail reform with DfT, part of the Williams-Shapps Plan for Rail, which committed to revolutionising how passengers buy and pay for their rail travel. Government is investing £360m in fares, ticketing and retail reforms to provide a better experience for customers and a more efficient and flexible system for train operators and the taxpayer. This will include:
- Easy, frictionless payment for every journey.
- Digital tickets across the network.
- Simplified fares.
- Pay-As-You-Go expanded outside London.
- A new ‘go-to’ GBR website and app.
- Modernised customer service at stations.
- Simpler compensation for disruptions.
- Centralised back-office systems.
