Kurt Brissett
Kurt is the Executive Director Connected Journeys at Transport for New South Wales where he is responsible for the design and delivery of customer centric digital products at extreme scale. As the Head of customer technology at Transport for NSW, Kurt is responsible for transforming the NSW digital citizen experience by allowing customers plan, book, pay and provide feedback for their end-to-end connected journeys.
During his time at TfNSW, Kurt’s achievements include the successful delivery of the first contactless transport payments system in the southern hemisphere. TfNSW has now become Australia’s largest contactless payment merchants with approximately 25,000 payment terminals deployed across the Opal network. Kurt also delivered the world's first fully integrated revenue protection app that reads both contactless payment cards and also closed loop Opal transit cards.
Other achievements have included the build and launch of Transport Connect which is TfNSW’s multi modal mobility platform that has been successfully leveraged to provide customers with an integrated digital customer experience. The platform was recognised in 2020 by ITNews as Australia’s Top Technology Project of the Year.
Kurt is responsible for developing and operating TfNSW’s customer facing digital products including the Opal Travel App which has over 3.5M downloads, transportnsw.info website and trip planners, transport’s virtual assistant and regionally based Trainlink booking system.
Kurt has over 20 years’ experience delivering complex technology programs both internationally and domestically in both the private and public sector. Kurt was formerly an Army officer where he served in Iraq, Afghanistan, Solomon Islands and Indonesia, prior to working for Deloitte in business and technology transformation. From there Kurt worked with ASX listed infrastructure firms Leighton Group and Lendlease where he led large multi-national technology teams prior to joining TfNSW.
