John Henshall is the Director and General Manager of TravelMaster, the multi-operator ticketing company for South Yorkshire. John has been leading the delivery of smart multimodal ticketing within South Yorkshire since February 2022. With over 19 years’ experience in public transport, John brings a depth of knowledge to the role along with a passion for delivering socially and economically beneficial ticketing projects.
John has delivered a variety of ticketing schemes including PLUSBUS across the UK with roles at ElanPTC, SYPTE, Yorcard and SWSAL/SAM prior to joining TravelMaster. An expert in the implementation of ITSO, John also has experience of delivering other ticketing and payment schemes serving a variety of customers, from students and scholars to older persons. Collaboration is a passion of John’s, previously Deputy Chair of Smart Transport Advisory Group (STAG), John originally convened the group to standardise multi-modal ticketing and delivered multiple procurements utilised by numerous authorities delivering smart ticketing services.
To deliver growth John is focussed on improving the customer experience to encourage modal shift to public transport in both South Yorkshire and beyond. Outside of TravelMaster John also founded his own consultancy Smart Habit and is currently advising Derbyshire County Council on their BSIP delivery.
