David has worked at the leading edge of Smart Ticketing Systems for over 30 years. He was involved in the early development of Oyster, ITSO, mobile location based and Contactless Bankcards ticketing. More recently this included implementing a rail pilot smart phone geolocation account based ticketing system as well as leading the technical implementation of the STNR ITSO programmes on UK rail at RDG. David also worked with the UKCA on contactless Bank solutions for ticketing as well as bespoke smart ticketing schemes in the UK and across Europe. These have included a range of product based solutions as well as Pay as You Go and Account based ticketing schemes using different media. During the late 80’s David worked on the implementation of the London Underground magnetic system which included early customer smart card trials before moving on to the Prestige Project developing, implementing and delivering the Oyster system for TfL. David has a broad programme management background in delivering major ticketing projects both in the UK and Europe and having worked in the supply, public authority and operator transport operator business. He has an excellent understanding of the commercial, social and political landscape as well, as these can be major challenges in implementing any scheme.
