The VDV (((eTicket Service (VDV ETS) publishes the standard for electronic tickets in German public transport: (((eTicket Deutschland. Together with the transport companies and associations, VDV ETS develops cashless and contactless ticketing in public transport.  

In addition, the company operates and coordinates the technical systems on which ticketing in Germany is based and develops new technical solutions for the transport companies and associations. This also includes supporting the companies and suppliers involved and drawing up and monitoring organisational regulations. 

The company offers seminars and training courses for transport companies and manufacturers of system components. On behalf of the VDV ETS, the ticketing components used in Germany, such as contactless smart cards, sales terminals, recording terminals and interfaces to the background system, are certified. The independent company CTC advanced GmbH operates its own test laboratory for this purpose. Another area of responsibility is security management and internal data exchange of the business customers participating in the (((eTicket system.  For their participants, they tender smart cards as a central service on behalf of transport companies and associations.
