The Smart Ticketing Alliance (STA) is a non-profit association that promotes and facilitates cooperation between national and regional smart ticketing systems to implement interoperable smart tickets in Europe and elsewhere. The STA was founded in 2015 by the three publishers of the European ticketing standard Calypso Networks Association, ITSO and VDV eTicket Service, by the French Agency for Transport Innovation and the International Association of Public Transport. Today, the STA is the trusted point of contact for public transport ticketing. The STA informs the standardisation process and coordinates the application of standards in public transport. To ensure interoperability from a standards perspective, the STA uses standards and specifications published by standards organisations such as CEN and ISO, as well as other member organisations such as GSMA and the NFC Forum. Recognised by a global network of stakeholders as a leader in smart ticketing for public transport, the STA has become the integrated platform for European transport authorities, transport operators and providers, industry and policy makers to promote, standardise and develop ticketing and seamless travel in Europe.
