SIA wanted to meet leaders from transport operators, authorities and governments interested in understanding how payments can help in enabling Mobility as a Service. We brought together participants from across the world to facilitate a conversation on the deployment of MaaS through a digital round-table discussion.

Case Study

Overview
SIA wanted to meet senior decision-makers from transport operators, authorities and local governments, interested in the implementation of Mobility as a Service. Their main goal was to place their offering as the go-to solution for MaaS enablement. They invited their client, ATAC SpA, to share how SIA helped them enable MaaS through payments.
We worked with them to establish a theme we knew would benefit their target audience. We found an engaging topic while showing SIA's expertise as a payments platform for MaaS. We titled the session as an enquiry on whether payments were the main element of MaaS enablement.
The aim of the conversation was to explore how payment innovations and MaaS might simplify customers’ lives. The session would also explore how payment technology can help transport organisations cut costs and encourage ridership.
Our approach
Our flagship event, Transport Ticketing Global, holds an extensive database of global transport operators, authorities and local governments. We collect data on the challenges, interests, and demographics of our audience, allowing us to target specific segments of our community that matched SIA's requirements.
SIA and their client participated in the session, and we introduced an industry specialist to act as an independent moderator for the session. This ensured that everyone felt they could contribute to the discussion. They met with SIA before the event to plan the main talking points of the round table and questions to ask participants. The session was interactive for all participants, punctuated with polls and personal experiences.
A global audience of over 15 relevant mobility leaders
We gathered a lineup of senior decision-makers, from a range of roles all involved in MaaS deployment and smart ticketing technology adoption. Job titles of delegates included Chief Information Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director, MaaS Project Manager, Head of Transport Technology, Head of Passenger Experience, etc.
We limited the number of participants to the round table. This ensured everyone had a chance to contribute and share their experiences and challenges. As a result, this session provided great value to everyone involved. SIA was able to show how they had helped their client enable MaaS, and how their infrastructure enables the management, authorisation, accounting and reporting of payment transactions.
Extended reach
To add value and extend the reach of the content, we had a technical writer produce an anonymised writeup of the round-table discussion. Here are the five key takeaways from the session:
- Payments are indeed enabling MaaS systems
- MaaS must focus on delivering better customer experiences
- Emphasising the benefits and ease of use of MaaS is crucial in order to maximize social inclusion and broader support
- Old payment habits are hard to break
- Sharing data and multi-stakeholder collaboration is critical
We’re delighted with how the event went and I believe we brought value to the participants. Through the panel discussion and roundtable, we were able to engage with our target audience of transport operators and authorities. We’re looking forward to the next one.”
