ITSO
ITSO is a non-profit membership organisation run by its members for the benefit of its members and users of smartcard solutions, supported by the UK Department for Transport.
ITSO has created a common specification at both the card and application level, to enable the use of interoperable smart cards in transport and other areas.
ITSO has become de facto the national electronic ticketing standard for UK. ITSO facilitates “smart” functionality of the concessionary travel schemes in Scotland, Wales and England; ITSO-compliant ticketing has been made a requirement for a number of rail franchises. ITSO standard is potentially suitable for other applications of smartcards, for example, citizens’ applications, car parking, loyalty schemes and other.
ITS (UK)
ITS United Kingdom, the UK association for the promotion of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), is a not-for-profit public/private sector association financed by members’ subscriptions, and provides a forum for all organisations concerned with ITS. We work to bring the benefits that ITS can offer in terms of economic efficiency, transport safety, and environmental benefits to the United Kingdom – and at the same time expand the ITS market.
The membership, over 160 organisations, comprises Government Departments, Local Authorities, Police Forces, consultants, manufacturing and service companies, and academic and research institutions. New members are always welcome and benefit from activities including seminars, workshops and regular news dissemination. ITS United Kingdom encourages discussion on issues such as public/private co-operation, standards, legislation, information provision and new technology.

LRTA

Prepaid International Forum
Prepaid International Forum is a not-for-profit trade association established to represent all parties participating on a commercial basis in the prepaid economy. It is dedicated to the progression of prepaid commerce around the world and acts as principal point of liaison between the prepaid economy and government agencies, regulators, consumer bodies and the media. It is focused on the entire prepaid world and facilitates the development of cross-industry guidelines and codes of practice. PIF addresses key areas of interest to the entire prepaid card industry through highly active and interactive Working Groups. The aim of these working groups is to look at best practice and create standards for the benefit of the industry as whole.
Members include Alliance&Leicester, Blackhawk Network, Tuxedo Money, JP Morgan Chase, MasterCard Europe, TSYS, Australia Post, Sainsbury’s amongst others.
Smartex
Since its establishment in 1992 to understand and promote a rapidly emerging smart card industry, Smartex has developed the foremost group of forums in that market. Today, it operates an international network of professional, membership-based associations concerned with smart cards, biometrics and RFID technologies.
Smartex events comprise regular day-long forum meetings, with influential speakers leading informal and highly interactive sessions addressing a wide range of topical themes dealing with technical, operational and commercial subjects, with many opportunities for attendees to network with leading industry specialists and potential users in a non-sales environment. Forums also establish their own working groups for each sector, where panels of members develop national strategies to further market development and to make recommendations on challenging issues of the day.
Members also receive a wide range of other services, many of which are delivered through the Smartex web sites, with www.smartex.com as their core.
Global membership currently approaches 500 companies in the UK, Africa and the Asia Pacific.
Smart Card Alliance
The Smart Card Alliance is a not-for-profit, multi-industry association working to stimulate the understanding, adoption, use and widespread application of smart card technology.
Through specific projects such as education programs, market research, advocacy, industry relations and open forums, the Alliance keeps its members connected to industry leaders and innovative thought. The Alliance is the single industry voice for smart cards, leading industry discussion on the impact and value of smart cards in the U.S. and Latin America. Smart Card Networking Forum
The SmartCard Networking Forum is a non-profit organisation run by Local Government to enable the sharing of excellent local authority smart card schemes knowledge and experience.
It is free to join for anyone in the public, voluntary or non-profit sectors with an interest in smart card applications.
Founded in 2001, the Forum is entirely independent and exists for local authorities to exchange information, ideas and experience about smart card technology and applications. It runs 3-4 Events per year, represents members interests to central government organisations and agencies, and engages with the commercial sector. The Forum's web site at www.scnf.org.uk provides a range of services to members, output from previous events and hosts the National Smart Card Project archive.
There are currently over 500 registered members, from over 250 different local, regional and national government bodies.
The Railway Forum
The Railway Forum is an industry-wide body sponsored by and paid for by most of the train operating companies, the rolling stock leasing companies, the Passenger Transport Executives, Railtrack, London Underground, Eurotunnel and many manufacturing and infrastructure companies, as well as other businesses connected with the railways. In all we have some sixty members.
Our key role is to act as a think tank, information exchange and point of contact for those committed to and interested in our industry.
